Who We Are

Our website address is:

Data We Collect From Everyone

This site is hosted behind a CloudFlare CDN & Web Application Firewall. Your traffic to this site will traverse CloudFlare’s global network. CloudFlares’ Privacy Policy is located here:

If you don’t want CloudFlare to know your IP address (and by extension your location) you may use a VPN or proxy to mask your traffic. Should you do this, however, CloudFlare may consider your traffic to be suspicious and may respond accordingly.

We collect the standard metadata sent by your browser. If you don’t want us to collect your browser’s metadata you can employ plugins, addons, proxies, or other technology to strip that metadata from being transmitted to us by your web browser.

Our web server records a standard set of telemetry information that every web server typically records. This includes, but is not limited to, your IP address, the date & time of the request, the location (on our server) of any requested resource, whether the request was successfully processed (or not), the size (in bytes) of the resource uploaded (or downloaded), your web browsers’ “User Agent” string (see above), and any referring link or URL (if provided).

You have no choice whether we collect this information or not. This data collection is a core and integral part of our web servers’ software. If you don’t want us to know your IP address you may use a VPN or proxy to mask your traffic.

We also make use of a third-party web analytics website to provide us with metrics on the use and availability of various portions of our website. Their privacy policy is available here:

We make no promises or guarantees regarding the duration which we maintain these records. We typically retain these records for as long as we deem fit for the continued operation of our site.

Excluding the specific sites and services mentioned above; we do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose the contents of any of our logs, traffic, or records to any third-party unless required to do so by law.

When you leave a comment on our site we collect the data shown in the comments form, in addition to everything specified in the previous section.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site frequently include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Note that the option for deleting any personal information does not delete any of the records or data generated and collected that “we collect from everyone”.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Visitor traffic may be analyzed by manual and automatic means for security threats and vulnerabilities.
